Jack Horner says a Velociraptor is very closely related to a modern day chicken, Especially when the chicken is in the embryo stage. Is the chicken a dumb and smaller version of a Velociraptor?

MemberCompsognathusAug-23-2013 5:04 AMSmaller? Yes. Dumber? No. Dinosaur intelligence is overrated and bird intelligence is underrated. About the same, maybe chicken is smarter.
Troodon was the smartest dinosaur with intelligence between possum and cat, while raptors were about chicken, a couple notches below possum.
Overall birds, including the common chicken, are just evolved dinosaurs.

MemberCompsognathusAug-23-2013 4:29 PMRaptors where egale, hawk, falcon, or more. I can't believe a raptor fan is saying tht they weren't very smart.

MemberCompsognathusAug-23-2013 5:53 PMWell, at least this confirms my worries, still though. At least there's badass raptors like hawks, falcons and eagles, so I'll stick to them. lol I feel sorry for some of these dinosaurs that evolved into certain birds though (assuming some of them did of course).

MemberCompsognathusAug-23-2013 9:03 PMPossibly, on the same note a lot of other raptors have been proved to be developed birds. But Im pretty sure velociraptor may be more related to a crow or eagle then chicken. But then again I am no scientist

MemberCompsognathusAug-27-2013 2:40 PMWhile they are smaller yes, but they are FAR from dumb. As I have heard they're cognitive abilities supersede those of cats and dogs. They can learn from observation, demonstrate self-control, and even worry about their future. So It's pretty safe to say that Velociraptor may have even been may have been less intelligent than what we get from KFC. And that's saying a lot. And I'm not saying that those pack-hunting, big-clawed, feathered raptors are stupid, but do you REALLY think that a Velociraptor would have to worry? Sure there is a chance a hungry Tarbosaurus could make him lunch, but other than that, they're apex predators! And chickens only worry because they know soon they will die and if female, they're babies will be stolen and devoured by humans.

MemberCompsognathusAug-29-2013 3:10 PM@Therizinosaur... Have you lost your mind? Are you saying that a chicken is smarter than a raptor??? Deltadromeus needs to see this.
Velociraptors were coordinated pack hunters which planned attacks on much larger animals. Who cares if they didn't have to worry? This has nothing to do with being smart. And who knows if raptors worried? Maybe young raptors worried about being eaten by their elders. Maybe a lone raptor worried about surviving without the protection and community of a pack. But to say that a CHICKEN is smarter than a VELOCIRAPTOR is just plain madness.
Not trying to be rude, just attempting to protect an amazing dinosaur from a sub-chicken disposition.

MemberCompsognathusAug-29-2013 5:15 PMIt's nearly impossible to say how smart something that's extinct is. Therizinosaur, as far as other predators go, you're forgetting Alectrosaurus, Zhuchengtyrannus, and others.
Anyways, I think Velociraptors were as smart as wolves or lions. Birds are extremely smart too, but it's too hard to say which is smarter when one is dead.
BTW, I don't go by what Jack Horner says. He may be the most controversial paleontologist out there.

MemberCompsognathusAug-29-2013 5:27 PMI've never eaten at KFC, but I know that a velociraptor, or any dromeaosaur for that matter, is smarter than what you get there. Raptors are smart. Very smart. I have a feeling that a young and very dumb raptor is about twice as smart as your genius chicken.most chickens nowadays are taken care of by us and have a pretty good life until they are slaughtered. Raptors have to find food and run away from bigger dinosaurs and take care of young and this and that and chickens sit on thier eggs then we humans take it from thier. Raptors have only thier pack to survive with. And some raptors like Utahraptor probably didn't have much more of a pack than mom dad and maybe uncle.

MemberAllosaurusJun-22-2015 10:20 PMI never replied to all the statements that were made here. It is possible that raptors could have been less smarter than chickens, and it is very possible they could have been smarter than wolves, after all their EQ is quite staggering...
