Episode 4 of Clash of Impossibilities Baryonyx vs Daspletosaurus Baryonyx This 30 ft long, 2.5 ton carnivore was relatively light weight, but still would have been a deadly opponent. With thumb claws over a foot long and 98 teeth, this dinosaur was one of the top predators in Europe at the time. Daspletosaurus At 33 ft long and 3-4 tons, this was one of the largest tyrannosaurs. Heavier and more robust than it's contemporary Gorgosaurus, Daspletosaurus would have been an expert fighter when it came to heavy combat. Fight A large Baryonyx is fishing from a lake's shore. It's a hot day and the spinosaur is grateful for the cool water at it's feet. Like the Baryonyx, a lone Daspletosaurus is also trying to find relief from the heat. He approaches the lake to get a drink and cool off. Upon arrival, he sees the fishing Baryonyx. The two carnivores stare each other down. Both are rivals and compete for the same food source. It would be easier to hunt if the other was out of the picture. The predators begin to size each other up. The Baryonyx charges the Daspletosaurus, but is not heavy enough to push him over. The tyrannosaur uses this as a way to get his jaws around the neck of the spinosaur. He does not have a good enough grip though so the bite does not crush it's neck. Meanwhile, the Baryonyx swings it's arm and drives it's thumb claw deep into the side of the tyrannosaur. The daspeltosaur releases his grip. He backs up a few steps and charges. Using his massive like a battering ram, he slams into the Baryonyx's flank and breaks a couple of it's ribs. The spinosaur roars and clamps onto the tyrannosaur's neck, but it's jaws are not very strong and it's teeth are not too long. The tyrannosaur easily shakes free, but the Baryonyx is already attacking again. It slashes the daspeltosaur's thigh with a thumb claw. The tyrannosaur strikes back and shoves the spinosaur into a tree, pushing it over. The Baryonyx painfully gets up and goes for the tyrannosaur's throat. His intent is to drive his thumb claws into it's neck. Despite his size, the Daspletosaurus is surprisingly agile and sidesteps. He grabs the Baryonyx's arm and crushes it in his jaws. The spinosaur bites the tyrannosaur's back to try and get him to let go. It does not work. Instead, he uses one of his claws and stabs the tyrannosaur's shoulder with it. This gets him to let go. The heat is taking it's toll and the two giants rest. The Daspletosaurus, more accustomed to hunting on the hot, open plains, recovers more quickly. The Baryonyx is used to hunting in cool water and is not ready when the tyrannosaur attacks. He grabs the spinosaur by the back of the neck again, but this time, he has a good grip. Using the bite force of 3,000 lbs per square inch, he breaks the Baryonyx's neck. The sickening crack can be heard for miles around. The Daspletosaurus drops the dead spinosaur and goes to the lake. He drinks his fill, then proceeds to eat his rival. Winner- Daspletosaurus Daspletosaurus was simply stronger than Baryonyx. Even though it had some pretty wicked thumb claws, the Daspletosaurus had the more lethal bite and brute force on it's side. Next time on Clash of Impossibilities Deltadromeus was fast and deadly predator. These carnivores had to compete with giants like Spinosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus. Diplodocus was constantly being attacked by carnivores like Allosaurus and Ceratosaurus. It would be perfectly capable of holding it's own in a fight. What would a fight between these two be like? Find out next time on Clash of Impossibilities.

I was sure Daspletosaurus was going to win because it had every advantage possible other than arms. Still a cool fight.
