The first director's cut / version of Jurassic World Rebirth had way too many easter eggs and nods to Jurassic Park and Steven Spielberg actually told Gareth Edwards to remove them! During a recent interview with ComicBook, Edwards explained how that first phone call went with Steven and David Koepp and how the conversation ended with Spielberg telling Gareth to basically scrap all the familiar scenes inspired by his Jurassic Park. Gareth chuckles and explains how initially he was disappointed but trusted Spielberg's direction and after they did so, Steven let them put a few of the references back in the film:

To be honest, the first director's cut, or the first version of the movie had a lot of Jurassic nods, cause I'm a massive fan, I think the world's a massive fan of that first film. And then what happened was we showed it to Steven Spielberg and David Koepp and it was "naughty Gareth" and they find out, I was doing all the notes, you know, when you sort of sit there and you go, Oh God what we're going to get out and its Steven, and you go, can you do everything he says because he's a master and you're going through it all... and then it was like "oh these are really good, these are really good, these are good." And it was like an hour and a half phone call and it got sent and then the very last one was like "oh yeah, by the way, take out all the easter eggs in the Jurassic references" and it was like "Oh..." and then, it was one of those things where you go, okay, let's do that and see how everyone feels about it. And thankfully we did it. And then they were, they obviously were like, okay fair enough. You can put some of that back in. – Gareth Edwards w/ ComicBook
