Jurassic World 2 has currently wrapped filming in the UK as production moves back to the tropical island of Hawaii, but with very little developments from the filming front, Jurassic fans have something else to look forward to - the elusive Jurassic World Game which was previously thought to have been canceled!
Back in November 0f 2015, we reported on a game being developed based on the new Jurassic World cinematic universe. At that time however, the project had been shut down due to its studio, Cryptic Studios Seattle having to close their doors but following the unfortunate closing, various artists who worked on the project had shared artwork they had created for the then-untitled Jurassic World game online - which gained huge popularity amongst fans of the franchise. Sadly, following the images going somewhat viral within the Jurassic and gaming community, we were asked to remove all traces of the images from our article - hinting that this game may have not been as extinct as we once thought.
It's reported since that Perfect World Entertainment, the game's original publisher got in touch with the artists from the then-titled Jurassic Park: Survivor game - insinuating that the now-titled Jurassic World: Survivor game may still be in development! Our friends over at Jurassic Outpost shared a new (pre-alpha version) screenshot of the game, which they believe predates the additional footage and screenshots which were released around the time of Cryptic Studios' closing:
They further speculate that if an official announcement is to be made regarding the game's current state, that it will likely happen at E3 later this month.
The game would have, or will introduce fans to a wide variety of new experiences and Dinosaurs within the Jurassic universe. For a little bit more about Jurassic World: Survivor, we recount a quote made by one user on Reddit, who had reliable information concerning an early look at the game. Back then (in 2015), their remarks were as follows:
I got to see some screenshots of Cryptic Studio's newest game, which was based on Jurassic World. It was a 3rd person game where the player controlled Chris Pratt's character. Several dinosaurs from the series were going to be in it including: Gallimimus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptor, Spinosaurus and Baryonyx.
In terms of gameplay, as the title suggests it would be very much a survival-type game - whereby gamers would need to use various resources to protect, hide and defend themselves against the numerous threats and encounters while stranded on a Dinosaur-infested island. Although the screenshot above shows players using guns, the final concept for the game likely would not rely on such weaponry.
Of course, little has been said officially, regarding the state of Jurassic World: Survival, but as fans we can only continue to hope that someday soon, this game manages to see the light of day. Fans old enough to recall will remember how fun and engaging games like Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis were. The current trend of mobile-based pay-to-play games are becoming rather dull and gimmicky - repetitive gameplay, the incredible amount of real-time dedication to level-up and the lack of any significant purpose, mobile based games are enjoyable on a short-term basis, but quickly lose their appeal. A fully developed, open world game based in the Jurassic World universe would keep players engaged and active far more effectively. Add to that an online multiplayer option whereby you and your friends become stranded on Isla Nublar and must work together to survive - significantly more enjoyable and inclusive.
Of course, as new details arrive concerning the fate of this Jurassic World game, we will be sure to keep you updated!
