Man, that's a hard one. I have read so many dinosaur books in my life. Including documentary books, and dinosaur storybooks and novels.
But I think my first book was How Do Dinosaus Sleep. Man I love those books. I don't care how old I am, I still love them. They were what spiked my interest in dinosaurs. I think the first movie I watched was Land Before Time.
Well there was that theory in Planet Dinosaur it used it's Head/upper jaw as an axe...so it didn't require a huge a bite force...
From what I heard (just heard), it had a bite force of 300-500...personally I'd say allo must've bit at least 1,000-2,500 lbs per square inch...however Im not a scientist and don't have the skulls to test it...
But lets see what the others say...
So pretty much when i got into dinosaurs?
Land Before Time, the first one...quite the childhood memory...
Then it lead up to Discovery Channel's Walking with Dinosaurs episodes (Later to be replaced by Boys vs. Girls, oh gosh the horror...) That was part of it...
Jurassic Park 3 sparked my interest although I saw Jurassic Park Lost world first, so jp3 played a big role for my interest in dinosaurs...(Jurassic Park Og is my favorite btw)
And lastly, the biggest reason as a chld to this day I still love dinosaurs is because of the PaleoArt in Encyclopedia. Favorite artists: Steve White and Julius Csotonyi...Dinosaurs to me were real life dragons! ;)
First book was when I took an interest in dinosaurs when I was in second grade and it was about the life if a brachiosaurus. My first movie was JP.
Another nice chapter! I like where this series is going.
When I was 3, my mom read me a 1980-ish dinosaur book. Then, I started reading a few dinosaur books, and I started playing with dinosaur toys. Soon, I got Jurassic Park 3 on DVD. My interest in dinosaurs really grew...
Now I'm a total dinosaur nut with WWD, Dinosaur, the entire JP trilogy, and Planet Dinosaur on DVD.
Very interesting...
A spinosaurus was definitly not a 20 ton creature (it's like they made it sound to be comparable to that of a mosasaurus)
So I would range it between 7 ton (being the lowest based on how it's built) and 11 (being it's estimatre size)
49ft-54ft long
Diet: Ouranosaurs, crocodillians (not a full grown sarcosuchus), medium sized dinos, and of course mainly fish. 70% fish 30% Dinos
My opinion :3
Allosaurus were those kinds of animals that look weak but actually are very powerful.
I saw walking ith the dinosaurs by BBC when I was 2.
Hey and don't leave me out, here are my thoughts :
Weight:
it's a known fact that suchomimus is very close to Spinosaurus, and based on suchomimus, a 56 foot Spino is around 5-8 tons, But wait, what about the expoenetial law i explained in an earlier post. It says, if an animal increases in length it's weight increases exponentially and after calculating that I can safely assume the following:
Weight: 9.8-10.7 tons
But how about length a lot of you seem to disagree about how long the beast is, here are my thoughts:
Length:
Most people put Spinosaurus between 48-60 ft....REALLY?!? I mean, come on i get a 4 or 6 foot, but 12! Well here is the evidence: the holotype (BSP 1912 VIII 19) measures about 50 feet long, but sadly it was destroyed in WWII. But other speciemens measure mostly 50-54 feet as well. The speciemen that did bring up the 60 foot estimate is the del sasso speciemen and as Carnosaur said in a previous topic is, it's full of flaws and mistakes. After estimating the speciemen again and again I can come to this Conclusion:
Length: 52-57 ft (15.2-17 m)
And it's diet, i can't really back up using hard evidence (so it's very ok to disagree with me on this part ) I think it's diet is 60-65 % fish and the rest is other dinosaurs. But anyway here are my final Thoughts:
Length: 52-57 ft (15.2-17 m)
Weight: 9.8-10.7 tons
Diet: Mostly fish, and ouranosaurus
Here are my thoughts. :D
The Abelisaur has a real small, delicate mandible in this case. Also, even though the teeth are large by abelisaur standards, they're still small by theropod standards.
I don't think the Rajasaurus would be able to control the Allosaurus with just its jaws, because A. Fragillis seems to be a lightly buiilt, yet powerful theropod. Their bite force would be about the same in this case (1 ton give or take a couple hundred pounds)
I'd have to say 50-50 on this case, maybe with a slight edge towards Allosaurus...This is a close one though..
I been following the Godzilla forums since it was created but I didn't want to join, I joined 30 May 2014. Anyway I accidently went to SciFieds home page, and at the top I saw Jurassic World :)
Hmmmm....
Since I was born in 2001...
I think the first thing I saw, or that I can remember, was JP///...
Brother and parents tell me it was JP the Lost World...but thats what I remember...
Then I think it was When Dinosaurs Roamed America
I think that may be a little off, But it seems kinda logical.
That's about 8 Metres.
But, If it was 15 metres, It'd be blown from proportion.
Interesting enough, My collection of Dinosaur Books (I trust them over the internet) Has little to nothing on Spino...
Even my JP Institute books.
Its just i use the internet as a process of elimination, Paden ;) My height estimate would be at 25-27 ft tops.
Your estimates would seem logical.
What's your height Estimate...
*Also... Don't believe everything you read on the net. -Wink-
I know, even if this was drawn in the pas, just...
NOPE.
That spinosaurus looks..just..no. Whole big glass of nope!
That image... makes me want to throw up in utter disgust lol
Sure!
I'm not the best Artist.
But i'll Join.
Guys... Remember when Spinosaurus was this?

Well i can see why, if you can capture it, then i dont see why it wouldnt corelate as to how it really was.
Well, finished chapter 5, hope you gusy like it!!!! Tomorrow it'll be posted.
Thanks for everyone who has been reading this little story.
Whatever it was, it would have made a hell of a display; rather that be for attracting mates, or scaring rivals from kills. More so the latter, because anything that makes an enormous bipedal crocodile look even bigger then it was, is something...else
Have y'all heard the idea that because there's a large abundance of theropods and aquatic life in the Kem Kem beds, all theropods were semi piscivorious in nature?
At the base, i believe there was a short ridge of extra muscle, but go up another foot or two, there is no way i would say.
I believe they were very capable fighters due to the amount of other species of predators, so there is little point to argue with that being said!
indeed, and regarding the neural Spines..
They aren't really like those of Dimetrodon, which are very thin and close together:

They are very broad at the bases, only slimming out as they grew in length

But, the kicker is that they weren't like the spines of a bison that support a fatty/muscular hump.

I also find the idea of a 6ft tall muscle ridge highly improbably as well, but i really have no other suggestions as to what the structure was..
I do believe Spinosaurus was adept at defense and attack.
Well, I'm a good drawer, but not the best one out there. But I can practically only draw prehistoric life, animals, kaiju, and dragons. I couldn't draw a person even if it saved my life.
Thats the fight or flight reaction every animal has, Scifi. And intimidation is always the first resort as for every animal with similar size to another, its instict because it could prevent them from putting themselves in harm's way.
I loved that scene in the Lost World novel! I'd love to see it in the film. I wonder if the raptor(s) woud get shot in the neck at the end like in the novel scene. It would be really cool seeing it tale place under a herd of Apatosaurus.
And ya see, i never got why people thought Spinosaurs weren't capable fighters, because even Baryonyx had the likes of Megalosaurus to deal with, and they were probably brought into conflict a great deal. Suchomimus too, had the predescesors of Rugops and Carcharodontosaurus that it in some way competed with, so it boggles the mind when people say Spinosaurs weren't very capable fighters.
^ I can see Spino hunting like a crocodile.
I enjoy the idea of Spinosaurus hunting Onchopristis, a 25 feet long sawfish. Also, in order to support its large size, it would need to eat a lot. Spino would have to be purely oppurtunistic. It would probably eat a wide diet of large fish, juvenile sauropods, carrion, and small to medium sized herbivores. However, Spinosaurus could use its sail to make itself look bigger, and steal from smaller carnivores, such as Rugops and Deltadromeus.
Those are my thoughts on Spinosaurus diet. To hunt, Spinosaurus could grab prey and grip onto it with its long, conical teeth, and then shake it around and slash at it with its claws. It would have to rely on the element of suprise. If that failed, Spinosaurus would have to be fast and have quick reactions.
