Elasmosaurus is my favorite plesiosaur. When you count pliosaurs, Liopleurodon is.

I read this a little while ago on the WWD website. I wish they had survived so we could have witnessed their evolution firsthand.

European Torvosaurus sp. was slightly over 13 meters based on a Portuguese skull. American Torvosaurus (tanneri) was only up to 11 though. I heard it mentioned on carnivora on a Torvosaurus thread.
ReplyMakaveli7Dinosaurs ForumAre Birds Reptiles?Aug 22, 2013
Technically they're aves, which are different from mammals and reptiles. They're basically a subgroup of birds or vise versa.
ReplyMakaveli7Dinosaurs ForumTop 10 Longest TeethAug 22, 2013
Either Phobodon or Torvosaurus should have been first. Torvosaurus' teeth were just as long or longer than those of T. rex, being that its skull was bigger and it had teeth more deeply rooted.

Basic security is a must. Cameras, shelters, etc. Plus rangers, heavy artillery, etc. Moats would be a good idea too. Motion sensors would be a good way to know where dinosaurs are and when.
ReplyRex Fan 684Jurassic World ForumFake official trailerAug 22, 2013
Course it ain't real. The logo is red instead of blue and Trevorrow said Tyrannosaurus would be important. This trailer is nothing but raptors.
Now, I will say it looks real and, if it was real, would be a very cool/interesting movie. It's just to far from the usual JP to be a JP movie.

It doesn't look bad, but dinosaur posts really attract a crowd. I really can't think of any. Maybe when the raptors attacked the fence in the first book and the raptors attacking the hie hide. I really like raptors by the way.

I also forgot to say, there is a tour going through the cage of the large carnivores, but it is surrounded by a half dome ten feet tall made of three foot glass and plexiglass. The roundness will make sure that T. rex can't bite down on it.
ReplyDeltadromeusDinosaurs ForumWere Dinosaurs Really Terrible LizardsAug 21, 2013
My theory is that dinosaurs are dinosaurs. They evolved into birds, but aren't birds. There are some reptile-mammal crossovers from the Permian and before and I think they evolved into mammals. Reptiles have been around since ancient times, before the Triassic, ie crocodiles and turtles. The ichthyosaurs were sea reptiles by name, but I do think they evolved into whales and dolphins. Th Petrasaurs evolved from reptiles and then died out. And another thing, I think the dinosaurs where whipped out by a meteor. Wait, this deserves another discussion. Forget what I just said.

well... most of you should remember Isla de coco, site a my theoretical jurassic park (until i get my degrees... then by god world... you will see dinosaurs... but thats a few years from now so its going to stay in my head... for now...)
Anyways, if you don't isla de coco is a real island of costa rica's coast Its kinda a bowl shape, which helps to conceal the creatures until the parks ready, It has 1 dock, (the maintenance side of it is hidden off behind bushes) all the herbivores are in 1 paddock/pasture, and all the carnivores are in separate HIGH security paddocks, we have 3 ranger stations, all over the island, they're all equipped with dispatch helicopters and apaches (armed with tranquilizers and bullets/missiles) they all have 2 dispatch vehicles and have a team of 40 strong, theres also park security a water world exhibit thing, a large visitor center and a military display of an aircraft carrier, which was renamed USS jurassic, it doubles as a security force and an actual war ship then tends to dock at the island...
I used to have maps and charts of the island... but Im not too sure where they went...

That's cool. I would have it so people walk around the park like in operation genesis or zoo tycoon 2. There would be lots of unknown herbivores and carnivores and even a battle arena where we put two dinosaurs up against eachother. As for paddocks, I would have some herbivores seperate and some together. BY family of course. Then you will have a huge area just for sauropods. It will be fenced off by large trees that are to close for sauropods to get through. Saving fences. There would also be large herbivores in there too. Shantungosaurus and the other huge hadrosaur for example. Even Edmontosaurus would be there. You take a jeep tour throgh that large paddock. The area for large carnivores will be dug down so the floor is twenty feet below the area where people walk to the fence to see. There is also an underground viewing area under the fence with very thick plexiglass so people can see the carnivores at ground level. There is also a 12 foot tall electric fence but the lower parts of it is just very thick glass and plexiglass, not to mention hard and clear plastic, a combination that can stop many bullets. And it would be several feet thick. For the Dromeaosaurs, I would have the same as the large carnivores, but the top would be a large glass plexiglass exetera exetera dome.and a cablecar wire would be strung across the top so a glass door opens as the car gets close, and closes as it passes. This goes the same for some Ceratosaurs. And there will be hotels and resteraunts and other nessecitys like gift shops to have there. It would also have amusement rides. iCloud go on into more detail but I think I'll stop here.

Replyt-rex90Dinosaurs ForumDo you think Liopluridon survive extinction?Aug 21, 2013
Well, there have been sightings of plesiosaurs such as the loch ness monster and champ of lake champlain and there has been some pretty good photo evidence taken as well, so sure, why not? I mean, they've already rediscovered species like the coelacanthe and frilled shark, even the pygmy whale, something that megalodon used to feed upon, so it's very possible.

Good point why didn't i think of that
ReplyRex Fan 684Dinosaurs ForumDo you think Liopluridon survive extinction?Aug 21, 2013
Liopleurodon lived long before Megalodon did for one thing. Also, being a reptile, Liopleurodon would have to surface for air with some frequency. This would give it away. The chances of Megalodon still being alive are pretty slim, let alone a reptile that lived long before Megalodon.
ReplyRex Fan 684Dinosaurs ForumWere Dinosaurs Really Terrible LizardsAug 21, 2013
The theory of evolution, which could be wrong itself, that's up to debate as well, states that mammals did evolve from reptiles. But not dinosaurs. The first true mammals showed up at the same time as the first true dinosaurs. They continued to overlap until non-avian dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago and there was a sudden explosion in mammal population and diversity. Dinosaurs continued to hold the role of top predator in some locations until the final Ice Age in the form of Terror Birds.
ReplyGavinDinosaurs ForumWere Dinosaurs Really Terrible LizardsAug 21, 2013
Scales or no scales, were all Dinosaurs cold-blooded. Their posture and lifestyles would suggest not. Also remember that the distinction between reptile or mammal is not as clear cut as you would at first presume.
If you are familiar with your Dinosaurs you will have heard of this guy...

Dimetrodon was what is referred to as a Para-Mammal, a mammalian-like reptile, of which their are many as can be seen HERE - some of which even had fur, which shows that it is possible for reptiles to evolve into mammals, not unlike how reptiles evolved into birds, one would say.
Thus my crazy theory suddenly seems less crazy and suddenly more plausible -and remember scales does not always mean reptile. Fish have scales, as do we humans, our skin is composed of minute scales and we are mammals. Hmmm the plot thickens.
Replyt-rex90Dinosaurs ForumWere Dinosaurs Really Terrible LizardsAug 20, 2013
Thought so, so that pretty much confirms that MOST dinosaurs did have entire bodies covered in scale then, thus making them reptiles. As well as some of the bone structure too.
ReplyRex Fan 684Dinosaurs ForumWere Dinosaurs Really Terrible LizardsAug 20, 2013
Yes. A fair amount of Edmontosaurus mummies have been found along with some other hadrosaurs. Carnotaurus skin has also been found and other species as well.

Both of you guys make good points. And you know, part of me did kinda wonder if a Rhino evolved from a Triceratops and the body of an elephant always did look kind of sauropod like to me but then again dinosaurs were reigning supreme at the time, mammals did'nt start to take over until after they became extinct, perhaps mammals evolved from reptiles then? but then why would reptiles be around today? same thing could be told about us humans evolving from apes but that's another story. Dinosaurs always seemed lizard like to me so I'm gonna keep thinking of them as reptiles even though they weren't actually lizards, plus I read that an alligator and crocodile are related to the t-rex in terms of the bite force and jaw power goes (I can see the resemblance too). smaller theropods turning into birds, that makes sense. Have'nt there been mummified dinosaur remains found though? I remember they uncovered a hadrosaur once and it's skin was made up of scales.

My Theory and Opinion
Dinosaurs are reptiles. While modern reptiles are not warm-blooded, the crocodilians have 4 chambered hearts, like a bird or mammal. Dinosaurs were probably warm-blooded and had 4 chambered hearts. This is how I break up the reptile family tree...
Reptiles-
"Basic" Reptiles-
Turtles/Tortoises
Lizards/Snakes(Mosasaurs were a kind of monitor lizard)
Archosaurs-
Crocodillians
Dinosaurs(birds)
Pterosaurs
Sea Reptiles
A very rough break down I will admit.
Most dinosaurs probably had a covering of primarily scales. The dinosaur mummy Leonardo, a Brachylophosaurus, proves this.

Leonardo
Small-Medium size theropods probably had a covering of feathers, the advanced ones that is, with scaly heads, feet, hands, etc.

Large theropods like Tyrannosaurus probably had feathers as juveniles and lost them when they reached sexual maturity.

With a few exceptions, like Yutyrannus.
Herbivores would have had mostly scales, with a few quill like feathers.

Because I classify dinosaurs and their contemporaries(sea reptiles, pterosaurs, and birds) as reptiles, they did not evolve into any mammal species. Mammals began to appear at the same time as dinosaurs, so it's basically impossible for dinosaurs to have evolved into mammals.
