futurepaleontologist1Dinosaurs ForumThe Permian extinction
Dude, you need to watch walking with monsters. Best Paleazoic documentary ever! And before even the Cambrian and the Ediacarans. Just water, cells, and a crap load of volcanic explosions and meteorite hits. And btw, maybe so, but was it a meteorite impact, volcanic activity? What's the major culprit here? Ohh, and you also need to watch Animal Armegeddon. It has all the mass extinctions our planet has ever faced, and many of those episodes are Paleozoic era extinctions, so they're before the dinosaurs. The first one was in the Silurian era and it helped super size the Eurypterid into a gigantic Pterygotis

Im highly curious, what was on the earth before dinosaurs... i know evolution was at work, And such, but what was before there was even sea creatures swimming around!?!?!!? every ones so focused about the Cretaceous extinction... we've never really studied the previous ones.... Wouldn't it be ironic if that was our downfall... I believe that most extinctions are from some form of destruction in the food chain... thus sending shockwaves to many species killing off many....Or from something in the eco system...

found Several fossils me and my sister excavated from our riverbed at our ranch: lenghts 4 large fossils measuring around 5 feet x 3 feet include 9 specimens 1 medium fossil about 2 feet x 2 feet include 3 specimens 2 smaller fossils about 1 foot x 1/2 feet include 5 specimens Sadly 5 of the fossils were lost *correction my dad went and decided to use them as a makeshift bridge for cows... didn't work... :( lost 5 EXCELLENT fossils* I still have 2 left... my house is the prime location for fossils, due to it being right in a coulee were the Glacier passed millions of years ago, im currently working on an area with a lot of what id like to believe is a form of fossil rock, id have continued with my dig if it weren't for BLASTED ANTS!!!! any who im about id like to say 15 minutes from royal terral museum in drumheller, I plan to eventually go for a dig there... So far only water specimens ove found, but if I've learned anything its that science is trial and error, who knows i could just be a shovel full of dirt away from a rex skeleton.... MAN THAT'D BE AWESOME... id also like to look into digging up in montana...

Right. Pretty nasty forces at play when you can wipe out all the dinosaurs on the Earth in a month. Not as bad as the Permian though...

I agree Charcarodontosaurus. Btw, I've made the mistake too, but you're spelling the name wrong. It's Carcharodontosaurus. It is just a CA at the front. The CHA comes second. We Car char fans need to stick together!

HOLY S*** thats scarier as Dodgson without a hat... This would be interesting *and some may crap themselves during the film* But it doesn't fully fit in, i mean sure with some adjustments and stuff but still, teradons wouldn't fully fit in as the main antagonist *or a medium antagonist like raptors in jp 3* I think if we do see something like this it will affect the movie entirely...

Found: Mososaurus jaw (Southeast Colorado) Several Trilobites (Mojave, somewhere in California {I was in the middle of nowhere}) Fragmented Styracosaurus frill spike (Over by Red Rocks in Colorado) What I believe is to be a fragmented Apatosaurus leg bone, but it's just a shard, so I don't really know Native American hand tool (Somewhere over by Salida Colorado) Bought Several plants Several fish Tyrannosaurus tooth Gifted A fossil of the plant excavation at DIA airport (2 actually) I have some more stuff, but all the rest is fairly minor

x_paden_xJurassic Park Games ForumPrimal Carnage Problems
I myself am looking onto purchasing the game...*but my PC is a piece of sh** so im going to have to wait...* The thing with games is that they dont always automatically work, sometimes you need to upgrade/update system software and such...' Also are you sure your PC is up to the requirements, Correct windows/linux and stuff, Also maybe your computer has some sort of virus or it doesn't have the correct app to run the game *steam does tend to do this :I* Also if the game is perhaps pirated or such it will have these problems and probably wont work *Never played the game before but i know what some pirated games tend to do* Or as spinosaurus rex said, it might be preowned... I know it sucks to fork up the 8 bucks for the game, but sometimes paying is the only way... These things do tend to happen, i ask you take a deep breath and check to make sure you did every thing right

I thought Allo's were slightly closer. I didn't really say they were the same as Rexes eyes, they were just binocular.

I think it would be cool. Still think they should stick to large theropods though.

Interesting. I'll have to see if anyone can identify it for sure.

Interesting, may be a Tyrannotitan. Or a large abelisaur, larger than Aucasuarus at least.

The tooth was a little more robust that Giganotosaurus or Mapusaurus teeth. It seems a little different than most carcharodontosaurid teeth. Still not like a T-Rex's tooth, but somewhere between there.

Nahh not really, i would agree with that. Disreguarding Giganotosaurus.

i agree, i would love just to see a little remain of carnotarus, it kinda ties with my like for spinosaurus.

BTW, that 5 inch tooth you mentioned. Sounds like it would come from either Giganotosaurus or Mapusaurus, based on the size. Do you know what shape it was? Thin? Thick? Neither?

Nice. It definitely helps to have some to study up close. That's pretty cool DinoFights. The Carnotaurus fragment and the other fossils. I figure, I can't get some of the real fossils out there, so I'll just order replicas. Next best thing really

My sister has a fragment of a Carnotaurus skull she found (or bought) in South America, along with a big tooth of some sort. It's about 5 inches long and slightly serrated. I have numerous ammonite, clam and snail shells from fossil beach along with a few teeth that looks like a whale's that are about 3 inches long.

Better than nothing. Prehistoricstore.com has some really nice replicas including Spinosaurus replicas: teeth, claws, etc. With all this talk about JP, Spinosaurus, and Tyrannosaurus, I have been studying my Spino tooth and Rex tooth replica like crazy. Trying to get as much info as possible out of em, lol

Rex Fan 684Dinosaurs ForumWhy Spinosaurus is better
Just a thought. One way it could have used it's sail at least.
Reply
Rex Fan 684Dinosaurs ForumWhy Spinosaurus is better
Perhaps, but I don't think it wanted to break it's sail. It would certainly been more agile than Acro, but that sail would have inhibited it a little bit. It may have been able to run fast, 20 or so miles per hour, in a straight line, but may have had trouble turning. If Spino was in a fight, I see it turning to it's side to make it look bigger using it's sail. Kind of like a dog when it's hair stands on end.

Brontosaurus>ApatosaurusDinosaurs ForumWhy Spinosaurus is better
I think Spino had a few advantages: claws, arm strength, probably size, skull length, intimidation, endurance and flexibility. Its powerful arms could deliver gruesome slashes with the aid of its powerful arms, it seems MOSTLY agreed upon that it was longer and heavier, it had a longer skull, giving it a reach advantage. The sail, if intact, could be used for intimidating rivals by making it look bigger or for thermoregulation, allowing it to not tire as fast as most dinosaurs. Also being built long and not as robust as, say, Acrocanthosaurus, it would be able to move its neck around with wider range and, being that its spines were spaced apart, turn to the side without hurting itself. Its spines were probably frequently broken, and it wouldn't have been in much pain when they broke, since the sail was thin membrane and the spines didn't have nerves.

Yeah, they seem to average about 5-6 inches long, 7 or 8 being the max. Then again it could just be the tip of the tooth. There was no root. I think it was the bottom half, the whole thing was probably 4 or 5 inches long. It's still pretty cool. My Meg teeth and Mosasaur jaws/teeth are some of my favorites. The angler-fish my jaw bone belonged to is estimated to be about 6 ft long and 50+ pounds. PSU identified it for me. Said it was something like 15-20 million years old.

Store in the Outer Banks. Michael's Gems and Glass I think. I get a lot of fossils there. It was not a huge tooth, 2.5 inches or so. They are all real fossils. I get them checked. I know some people at Penn State University and I have sent some fossils there to be identified.
