FIGHT!

An Australovenator is feasting on an elk carcass. He just pulled it down with relative ease. He’s nervous though. He made the kill near a cliff edge and he’s in the open. He checks his surroundings every once in a while. There aren’t many other carnivores big enough to steal his food, but there are a few. He must be careful. The dinosaur glances down the edge of the cliff to see how far away the bottom is. A layer of fog stops him from seeing how high it is, but he doubts it’s only a few feet.

A few miles away, a monster grizzly is patrolling his territory. He scrapes his claws down the side of a tree to mark his territory, and keeps moving. There’s a slight breeze, bringing with it the scent of another carnivore. It’s a mix of reptile and bird scent. A dinosaur is in the area. He can also smell a fresh kill in the same direction. The bear decides it’s worth an investigation.

The Australovenator can see the grizzly coming a mile away. In this relatively open area, it’s not hard to miss a half ton bear. The grizzly knows he’s been spotted and charges. It’s not an attack, rather an intimidation method. A huge bear charging 25 miles an hour usually sends most predators packing. But this Australovenator is not about to back down. He wants to keep his kill. The bear stops when he sees the dinosaur’s not backing down. The Australovenator hops over the kill and gets between it and the bear. He snarls and growls at the bear. The bear stands up on his back legs, towering over the dinosaur, and roars. No backing down. No retreat. This fight will end in death.

The dinosaur moves forward, cautiously. He hisses, exposing rows of jagged teeth. The bear roars and swings his huge paws to deter an attack. But the Australovenator has no plans of facing this bear head on. Using his agility, he outflanks the bear and lashes out with his teeth. He aims for the flank. He does damage, albeit not much due to the thick fur of the bear. He spits out some fur that clung to his teeth and snarls. The bear whirls around, his paw missing the dinosaur’s face by an inch. The bear snaps at the theropod, but the dinosaur is too quick. The Australovenator hisses and swings his hand claws. The bear doesn’t get his head out of the way in time and gets a faceful of claws. His nose is torn open and his lip is slashed. He charges the dinosaur, slamming his head into his flank. The Australovenator stumbles back a few yards. He looks behind him and sees he’s only a step or two from the edge. He’ll have to watch his step. The bear charges again and the Australovenator sidesteps, swiping his face at the same time. The bear stops short, his cheek slashed open.

The bear rears up again and roars at the dinosaur. The Australovenator hisses and flashes his teeth. The dinosaur edges a bit closer, unknowingly coming into range of the front paws. The bear swings one and the dinosaur leaps back, but not completely in time. One claw catches him in the chest, tearing off a chunk of flesh. The theropod snarls and hisses in pain. The Australovenator charges the bear, then sidesteps. He leaps up and lands on the back of the bear. The grizzly bellows as the dinosaur digs in with both teeth and claws. The bear tries to rear up, but the weight of the dinosaur keeps him grounded. The Australovenator tears the both of the bear’s ears apart, reducing them to shredded ribbons. The bear finally musters  the strength and rears up. The theropod loses his grip and falls off.

The bear turns and pushes the dinosaur to the ground as he tries to get back up. The Australovenator attempts to fend off the bear with his claws. He succeeds in taking out an eye, but this only angers the bear. The grizzly catches one arm by the wrist in his jaws. The Australovenator screams in pain as the grizzly chomps down on the wrist, crunching bones. He starts to grind the arm in his jaws, causing terrible pain. The Australovenator swings his good arm and lands a blow on the throat of the bear. It’s not a serious injury, but it gets the bear to stop. The bear lunges forward again, but the Australovenator reaches out and catches the bear’s face in his good hand. He digs his claws in and shoves the bear’s head away. The dinosaur rolls away and gets back to his feet. The bear charges and slams the theropod down again. He lands on the antlers of the elk, one point piercing his thigh.

The Australovenator stands as the bear charges again. He leaps out of the way and slashes the flank of the bear as he passes. The dinosaur turns and watches the bear rise to his full height. That’s when the Australovenator gets an idea. The bear roars and bellows in a show of strength and that’s when the dinosaur attacks. The Australovenator charges the bear and slams into his exposed chest and stomach. The bear grunts and the force of the charge sends him stumbling back. He trips over the carcass of the elk and loses his balance. The Australovenator watches as the bear tumbles over the edge of the cliff, disappearing into the fog and falling hundreds of feet to his death. The Australovenator makes his way to the edge of the cliff and roars in victory. A new apex predator has arrived.

Winner- Australovenator

The bear was stronger, but it didn’t help when his rival was almost never within striking distance. The speed and tenacity of the Australovenator is what helped him win the day and take the spot of apex predator this time around.

Sorry about the dino winning then, but I'm glad you still liked it.

Thanks. How was the death of the grizzly? Good idea to send it off a cliff(I have a tendancy to do that, haha)?

Not sure. After this I might take a break. Do a few random posts(dino news, top 10 lists, etc). Maybe I'll start working on my latest story(The Fight To Survive: Rise of a Tyrant). Guess we'll see.

Actually, I have a story series called The Fight To Survive. It's been around these forums for a long time. The first was The Fight To Survive, the second was The Fight To Survive: A World Away, the third was The Fight To Survive: A Best Friend. I have plans for 2 more. Here's the Wiki I made for it...

(not done yet, but it has most of the needed info)

Predator X, just a tip, you shouldn't just say "you stole my idea" because chances are they had the idea long before you, or there completely different ideas.
