The Greatest Hunt
As Star reaches the bottom of the mountains, he starts to plan how to go about hunting down Redeye. Star’s not a hundred percent sure of where to start though. He has not seen any sign of Redeye for years now. As night approaches, Star picks his sleeping area carefully. If he will be attacked tonight, he wants to have his back and flanks protected. Star picks a large rocky alcroping perfect for protection. As he settles in for bed, he thinks one last time about Redeye. That’s a mistake. His sleep is filled with nightmares about that fateful night. When he wakes up, it’s still dark and the night is filled with terrifying howls.
The Alioramus pack is closing in on Star. The relentless killers have a taste for blood, any blood. As they close in, they begin to howl loudly and more frequently.
Star looks up to see shining eyes all around. Pearly white fangs glisten in the moonlight as the Alioramus howl. He stands up and prepares to face the snarling, howling pack. He’s in no mood for this and will wipe out the whole pack if he can. He gives a thunderous roar that shakes the earth and the Alioramus charge. Star spins and turns, deflecting every attack launched. He slams them with his head and tail and they all stagger back bruised and bloody. The Alioramus back off and try to formulate a new plan. With his back protected, it’ll be hard to outflank Star. Then, one very bold Alioramus tries something unexpected. He leaps onto the back of another Alioramus and jumps off from there and lands on Stars back. Star roars loudly as the smaller predator tears at his flesh. With Star distracted, the rest of the pack attacks. Star bucks and tries to through the Alioramus’ off, but many hold tight. Star looks at the rock face behind him and has an idea. He turns sideways and slams his body into it, crushing multiple Alioramus’. Star then spins and a few more fall off. He inadvertently steps on one and crushes it. Another that was hanging onto his flank slips closer to his jaws and Star manages to grab it’s tail. Then, he throws the tyrannosaur and the Alioramus slams into several of it’s packmates. Star manages to get his jaws around another and crushes it. The few remaining Alioramus run off in terror. When they get a few miles away, they give a death howl for their fallen pack members, then run off. Star roars in victory, then passes out due to his injuries.
When he wakes up, his body is stiff and sore. He painfully stretches his legs and gets up. He looks around at the bodies around him. In a fit of anger, he uses his foot claws to disembowel one of the carcasses. Star feels a little better now. Then, he remembers what he’s supposed to be doing. Star quickly sets off to find Redeye. His best option is to go to his territory. Redeyes territory should be easier to find then Redeye himself. As Star walks back, he passes his territory and reflects on the years he’s spent there. After a few minutes, he moves on. At noon, he stops at an oasis to quench his thirst. While he’s there, he catches a lone Gallimimus and feeds hungrily. After a few hours rest, he continues on his search. Star keeps on the lookout for any sign of Redeye and tries to smell him as well. It’s not an easy task, but he eventually picks up the trail. It starts just outside Star’s territory and begins to head south. Star takes his time for he doesn’t want to lose the trail. He follows the trail for a few miles before stopping. Night is approaching and he knows he needs sleep if he’s to encounter Redeye. Star curls up within the cover a small oasis. Only a few minutes into his sleep and Star’s nightmares are already beginning. When he wakes up, he’s sleep deprived. Star can’t wait for the day when the thought of Redeye will no longer haunt him. Star gets up and staggers around a bit. He walks over to a pond and thrusts his head into it. As he pulls his head up, he feels a little more awake. Star shakes his head a bit and reassess the situation. He needs to eat to keep up his strength, but doesn’t want to lose the trail. So, he takes a rock and places it right on the trail. Then, Star rakes his toe claws down it to mark it as the trail. Now Star can go hunt and easily pick up the trail again.
As Star walks off to find food, he begins to think as to what he should hunt. Eventually he decides simply to go for the first thing he sees. After about a mile of walking, Star sees a flock of Gigantoraptors moving across the desert. Star immediately gives chase. The swift dinosaurs bolt away and Star can barely keep up. A few of them branch off from the rest of the flock and head west. Star decides to follow them. As he veers to the west, he sets his sights on a limping animal. He’s almost within biting distance when he trips on something. The sand cushions his fall a bit, but it still hurts. Star looks back and sees he tripped on the skull of a large hadrosaur. Then, he looks forward to see the landscape before him. A large forest stands before him. It’s dark and dead trees fill up most of it. The ground is littered with skeletons. Dozens of them. That’s when it hits Star. This is the home of Redeye. Star tenses up. Then, ever so slowly, he enters the domain of the devil.
