Siats by Julio Lacerda

It's name is Siats. it was discovered only recently and it was the apex predator in the Cenomanian, between 95 and 100 mya. It had the third longest femur between North American predator, and it was about to 30 feet long with a mass of over 2 t - the found specimen, however, it's a juvenile: an adulthood specimen may have been even bigger.

The paper: Lindsay E. Zanno & Peter J. Makovicky (2013) Neovenatorid theropods are apex predators in the Late Cretaceous of North America Nature Communications 4, Article number: 2827 doi:10.1038/ncomms3827

Interesting. I think I heard about this thing on the radio. Was it from Utah?

It seems to have lived at roughly the same time as Acrocanthosaurus. 30 ft, 2 ton juvenile. Hmm, an adult was probably 36 ft(11 meters) or so and 3-4 tons. About the same size as Acro. N. America just got another giant meat eater alongside Acrocanthosaurus, Allosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, etc.

Cool. Never heard of it, but it seems cool to me. Actually, I only saw the picture: but who made it (Julio Lacerda on DA) didn't want to share its name ;). How I know? It's my cover pic :D

Everything I've seen states carcharodontosaur. But I don't know for sure. What paper was it?

Fair enough. I have seen statements saying it was a carcharodontosaur though.

Example...
