MemberCompsognathusAug-27-2013 8:32 PMAccording to new research on the skull of Carcharodontosaurus iguadensius, the skull is composed of bone fragments from more than one animal, making it a chimera. The upper skull pieces are very likely a Carcharodontosaurus', but the lower jaw piece belongs to Rugops.... Making Rugops above, and I stress ABOVE, 12 meters or 40 feet if the scaling is correct.
Rugops had a somewhat small skull, and this, by no means, was a small piece.
The upper skull piece probably belongs to a new species of Carcharodontosaurus (iguadensius), but the lower jaw belongs to Rugops or a very closely related abelisaur.
So this makes Rugops Ekrixinatosaurus' African counterpart as Carcharodontosaurus is to Giganotosaurus and Spinosaurus is to Oxalaia.
But Rugops had a weak bite, dull teeth and a modest build, unlike Ekrixinatosaurus and was overall more likely a scavenger...
So why was it so big? Does the strangely Rugops-like fragment belong to Rugops? A larger dinosaur? What do you think about C. iguadensius?

MemberCompsognathusAug-27-2013 8:43 PMIt could belong to the mysterious dinosaur "The Predator." This dinosaur has been described as an abelisaur/tyrannosaur mix. It's been said that this dinosaur was 35-43 feet. Comparable to that size. Perhaps it's just Rugops' close cousin. Rugops is a pretty well documented dinosaur. All specimens point to animals in the 20-30 ft range. Big, but not huge.

MemberCompsognathusAug-27-2013 8:46 PMDo you have the link to this article? And wow perhaps it was another undiscovered abelisaur we don't even know about but it could be possible Rugops is a relatively new find so who knows!

MemberCompsognathusAug-27-2013 8:51 PMI heard "the predator" had a very robust skull and jaw, and, while this piece is huge, it's not the lower jaw of the predator, which allegedly was a foot or more inches tall at the tallest point, the skull being nearly cubical.

MemberCompsognathusAug-27-2013 8:57 PMI was just trying to find other suspects. I have a hard time believing it was Rugops itself. I can see it being another abelisaur, but not Rugops. This lower jaw has to be pretty strong to have been mistaken for a Carcharodontosaurus. Rugops has a pretty weak skull design, for it's s size at least.

MemberCompsognathusAug-28-2013 10:20 AM'The Predator" is a very poorly known giant predator from Africa. It has a build and skeletal design similar to abelisaurs and tyrannosaurs. It's rumored that it was between 35 and 43 ft and 5-10 tons in weight. Like the Horror Mouth, very little is known about it.
