The dig was started in 2000, but like most new discoveries, took a while to be made public. Both predators are still relatively new to science. One species was named Kryptops palaios, or "old hidden face," because of a horny covering over its face. The other was named Eocarcharia dinops, or "fierce-eyed dawn shark," for its razor-sharp teeth and bony brow. Both predators were about 25 ft long and would have weighed about 2 tons. These two carnivores are from the same time and area. Because of their similar sizes, it's likely they ate the same herbivores and competed with each other. They lived roughly 110-120 million years ago. Kryptops is possibly on of the oldest abelisaurs and Eocarcharia is a carcharodontosaur/allosaur. Eocarcharia was found in 2000 and Kryptops was described/found in 2008. There is still much to be learned about these two carnivores. As for me, I would not want to run into one of these rhino-sized killers.
