They were wrong.
It is now known that Megalodon did not have the seas all to himself. Meg's biggest prey item, whales, were also it's biggest rivals. The most terrifying was Brygmophyseter, the Biting Sperm Whale. Attaining a size of nearly 40 ft and weighing 15-20 tons, this whale was not only large, but it also had a set of 44 teeth the same size as Tyrannosaurus'. They also traveled in pods and could use sonar as a weapon. It seems that even Megalodon had to watch his back.

Can you guys think of any other Megalodon rivals?

MemberCompsognathusJun-06-2013 8:58 PMYes, I am just sayin that Megalodon is not the unrivaled ruler of the deep we all thought he was.

MemberTyrannosaurus RexJun-06-2013 9:01 PMI know. I knew since I saw that one episode of Jurassic Fight Club. That's where I got the escape to deeper waters idea. Another thing that made Megalodon not unrivalled was it was less intelligent, and solitary, while the whales were likely smarter, and hunted in pods.

MemberCompsognathusJun-06-2013 9:02 PMYeah, that's were I got my inspiration for this post. Meg was more agile with it's cartilaginous skeleton, but the whales were faster in a straight run, or swim, in this case.

MemberCompsognathusJun-06-2013 9:08 PMPerhaps an underwater battle of these titans would be a good idea for Jurassic Park 4. The real Jaws vs an oversized killer whale with a really bad attitude, haha.

It was up to 60 feet long with a 10 foot skull that was packed with the largest teeth yet known at over 1 foot long. The massive teeth delivered the greatest bite force of any tetropod. The beast hunted other whales and for a brief time shared a habitat with Megalodon. Might they have engaged in the greatest predator vs. predator match in the entire history of the world? Quite possibly.

MemberCompsognathusJun-06-2013 9:34 PMI think it would end like today's great white vs. killer whale battles. The leviathan was pretty much a cross between a killer whale and a sperm whale. Size of a sperm whale with the jaws of a killer whale.

MemberTyrannosaurus RexJun-07-2013 3:20 PMWhere's a like button when when you need one? I would love to see Megalodon and the biting sperm whale have a fight. It would be unlikely for the obvious reason of how to incorporate marine creatures into the movie.
