Ok guys, im sorry about getting nasty about this debate, its just that I get very serious about dinosaurs and what i know, especially this debate. And also this site has been glitching on me for some reason, i wish i could figure it out. So im gonna start out fresh. There has been 30 or more T-Rex skeltons ever found. The majority of them have been preety close to the same size, so it must have been the average size. On the other hand, there has been only one Spinosaurus skeleton found, and it wasnt even complete or well preserved anyways. But , there was enough evidence that it was the largest carnivorous dinosaur ever found. So, with that being said, it was very very likely that there more that were even bigger ones. It could be a coincedence, but it its extremely unlikely that it was since there was only one ever found. Largest T-Rex out of the 30 or more skeletons - Length: 43 ft./Height: 14 or 15 ft. First and only Spinosaurus ever found - Length: > 60ft./ Height: 20 ft. or more No one knows which one had more strength or power or which one is more powerfully built. In my opinion, Spinosaurus would be. Its just common sense (to me) that it would be. Now let me state my reasoning. Spinosaurus had to have great strength and power to move itself, and even more to defend itself/kill bigger predators than T-Rex, like Sarchosuchus, Charcarodontosaurus, and Mapusaurus (Mapusaurus wasnt as big as T-Rex, but it was preety close). All that T-Rex had to worry about was other T-Rexes and smaller predators, like Dinonychus and Nannotyrannus. He probably had to scare them away from his kill or already dead animal. Spinosaurus had to deal with much bigger dinosaurs like the ones i mentioned earlier (Sarchosuchus, Charcarodontosaurus, and Mapusaurus). Spinosaurus probably had to fight/kill other Spinosauruses for thier kill, like a big fish or a Paralitian (believe me, im preety sure Spinosaurus was able to kill and eat sauropods). Im also preety sure that T-Rex had to fight or kill other T-Rexes for the same thing. Please, nobody descibe this as being biased, and also, i would like to use a substitute for the word biased, its getting kinda annoying to me, what do you guys think? What about the word prejudice, that sounds better to me. And again im sorry for all of the chaos ive caused, please forgive me.

I see where you are coming from. For one thing, Mapusaurus was a South American predator. Like I have said, just because something is longer/taller, it does not mean it was heavier. My favorite example is Diplodocus and Brachiosaurus. Spino was by far the longest I will say that. T-rex just seems to be more heavily muscled and therefore heavier. I do see what you mean with the fact that only one Spino skeleton was found. Some jaw fragments and other bones have been found. Until another good Spino skeleton is found though, one that at least rivals, if not exceeds Rex, I think I will stick with Tyrannosaurus being the largest. But good points.

Pretty good reasoning. But doesn't Mapusaurus live in South America? Sauroniops, Bahariasaurus and Deltadromeus were all about that size too.

i thought mapusaurus was the dinosaur spino killed in monsters resurrected?

They were a little smaller. Allosaurus sized, 33 ft or so. And Spino Rex, don't worry, I take dinosaurs and paleontology very seriously too.

That was a Carcharodontosaurus.

Rugops is only between 20 and 30 ft long.

It did fight Rugops though.

I think Spinosaurus would have been heavier than T-Rex in absolute terms by at least a ton or two, but T-Rex was heavier relative to body size. For example, out of a 40 foot T-Rex and 40 foot Spino, Rex would be heavier. To a 56+ foot Spinosaurus though, it was probably lighter.

One Rex skeleton found near Fort Peck in Montana was at one point thought to be 65 ft long and 13 tons. This is extreme even to me. I think it was probably closer to 50 ft and 9-10 tons. I hate to say it over and over again, but I think Spino was light for his overall size. Somewhere around 7 tons for a 56 foot Spino. This is the max size to me. The max size for Rex is somewhere around 50 ft and 9-10 tons. These are my opinions and Spino Rex does have some good ones too. Like I said, until a really big, really well preserved Spino skeleton is found, I'm sticking with Rex.

A full grown spinosaurus was probably heavier in absolute terms.

i knew that one was charcarodontosaurus, i was talking about the first one he killed, but it was still a larger predator

It was big, but not T-rex or Giganotosaurus big.

i know, what i meant to say was" more so large", does that make sense?

I get ya. I think Spino could easily take on something the size of Rugops or Deltadromeus. But I think it would have a hard time with something like Carchar or Rex.

Yea im sure they would all have a hard time in terms of fighting each other because they were all the largest predators

I think it was so big because it had to fight off Carchar or Bahariasaurus, which also reached 40 feet or so.

Yeah, I'm sure they would. Even though we don't agree on everything, I am sure we all agree that Giganotosaurus, Carcharodontosaurus, Spinosaurus, and Tyrannosaurus were all giant predators perfectly adapted to their environments.

Thanks for calming down some. It could just be a coincidence that the most complete (there have been fragments of others) Spinosaurus found was so big, but maybe that fossil was the only one heavily built enough to survive so long in the desert (just a suggestion). I hope more and better fossils are discovered in the years to come though. Let's not forget T-Rex had a couple million years of evolution over any of the other large carnivores that you mentioned. So T-Rex could overcome the challenge of facing something larger than itself. And T-Rex also preyed on Triceratops and Ankylosurus, which makes up for the lack of competition.

I don't think a full grown T-Rex or even a pair of full grown T-Rex would hassle an adult Ankylosaurus unless they were starving and there was no food for miles around. I bet they would even take a Triceratops over an Ankylosaurus. Ankylosaurus was a beast for how dumb it was.

T-rex also had Alamosaurus to deal with. An average adult was nearly 70 ft long and 30+ tons. Some bones of Alamosaurus suggest it may have been as big as Paralatitan or even Argentinosaurus. In order to attack an Ankylosaurus, T-rex would have had to have the brains to figure out how to flip it over. T-rex certainly was smart enough. However, it was also smart enough to realize it meant almost certain injury or death to tangle with that prehistoric tank.

I know what you mean. But if was do or die, then the circumstances would change. Let's just move on. Confirmed, T-Rex would not attack Ankylosaurus unless it was desperate.

Yes, that's the situation with a lot of things in nature.

Hey Spinosaurus Rex! I'm with you that Spinosaurus was bigger. Although if the two were to fight each other, based off of Rexes build, I feel like Tyrannosaurus Rex would win, but that's just based off of the skull of Tyrannosaurus. Spinosaurus had a slightly frailer jaw. I think that over a long term period though, Spino would die, because Tyrannosaurus Rexe's bite was filled with bacteria. I'm not a Rex or Spino fan, so I stand rather neutral on this argument, but even if Rex had scavenged, I feel like it may have a better chance at winning. Thanks for reading Spinosaurus Rex

what a great discussion! but i swear there is like a million of these all through this site! lol My view is always with T Rex! this is just due to his beast of a skull that is like a crash helmet in dinosaur terms, and just through being the most evolved and being smartest! so who ever he would fight or not fight, he would prob know how to survive the best for using his brain. Weoponry in terms of claws n use of arms he is pretty naff! but cant have everything. When attacking prey they were all apex predators in their time within their environments. When u have prey that isnt armour plated , you dont need bone crushing jaws. If u live in a swampy watery environment having long arms, the ability to swim with a long body ull succeed hense y spino was so perfect for his environment. its like comparing who would win out of a polar bear , grizzly bear, and a lion or a tiger. also i dont think any of the big predators would take on a sauropod unless they were in a pack or if it was a jouvenile , it wopuld be far to dangerous for them. it makes sense if u look at animals today how often do u see a pride of lions take on a giraffe or elephant ??? dont happen! they klnow where their breads buttered!! just something to think about :)

We know there are a like a million other discussions just like this, but does this one have any arguing over which is better? You got a point how they were apex predators in their time and are adapted for their environment.

Rex Killer I never remembered to say anything about your comment. I think Spino got real big not just to fight off other large carnivores but maybe to intimidate them (not saying Spino can't fight, between size, the sail, and possibly the ability to change the sail's colour, that probably would have been enough to intimidate a lot of creatures).
