SasquaDashDinosaurs ForumIf you do not want to Pay Apple Tv+ to watch prehistoric Planet

HinikunaGoji

I do want to watch it and I am planning on doing so at some point, however some of the drama in the paleontology community has soured it somewhat for me. Some paleo artists (including some that are involved with the series) have really terrible attitudes and constantly try to pick fights with others, which is something that's sadly become very common within the paleo community.

Also, I really don't want anything to do with Twitter...

SasquaDash

So you dont watch a dino show because of the drama.

Twitter is a hot mess anyway. If you dont like the paleo drama and are trying to fight it, go there.

Bc i have no idea what communities you are talking about.

Also, another reason why I'm somewhat hesitant to watch it at the moment is due to the current way the Paleo Community (specifically some who are heavily involved with the series) are acting, with them constantly picking fights with others, insulting others work as a way of promoting their own, their petty "war" against the Jurassic Franchise, and their arrogant (and at times narcissistic) attitudes, which has soured my excitement for the series. I still plan on watching the series because I love dinosaurs and the series looks incredibly well made, but at this point, I'm just tired of the Paleo Community's garbage behavior.

I blame jurassic world alive.

I might wait to watch it (hopefully it isn't a limited release) because I also want to watch the new Godzilla series (whenever it comes out), but I'm not sure if I want to pay for another streaming service at the moment.

The Pyro's face doesn't seem that strange to me. For the most part it resembles a slimmer version of the JP raptors with some similarities to the JP3 raptors.

I don't know, the Atrociraptors don't look too different from the velociraptors. I don't think the audience will be able to tell the difference between the Atrociraptors from the Velociraptors. Given the franchise track record on the velociraptor's design, they come in all different colors, shapes and sizes.

I always liked Pyroraptors ever since the 2003 documenatary Dinosaur Planet's episode Pod.

I dont know Atrociraptor has a more unique head shape i like.

Plus the pyroraptor in JWA has really ruined the dino for me. (You could argue its not the same model, but its the weird face shape they both have, that i dont like.

The Atrociraptors are cool, but for the most part they just feel like bulkier, less intelligent versions of the Velociraptors that we've seen in the previous films (Tiger pretty much has the same patterns as the Lost World raptors).

The Pyroraptor stands out a lot more due to it having feathers and being more scientifically accurate, which is a big step forward for the franchise. Plus its ability to swim makes it feel more unique when compared to the other raptors.

The one with Grant and the Dimetrodons is definitely my favorite. I'm really excited to see that scene.

Even if you ignore the idea of the JP raptors being Deinonychus that are going by the name of "Velociraptor antirrhopus", (which some of the more recent JP/JW content does) you could argue that they are a different subspecies of velociraptor or that they fall into the "Velociraptorinae" group (which Deinonychus is occasionally included in).

What I know is that Micheal Critchon originally said they were Deinonychus. But with living animals we do not refer to them by scientific names but by common names. And many different animals are called the same. So because Velociraptor sounds coolest, its just a group name.

XenotarisJurassic World ForumWhat do you think of Hybrids So Far in the JP Franchise?

HinikunaGoji

It was my first JP "hybrid", I remember flipping through a toy catalog when I was 7/8ish back in the late 90's and in the jurassic park section there was the chaos effect toyline.

Sadly the Ultimasaurus despite being the Chaos Effect's mascot and appearing in the initial advertisement was not for sale due to its horns being too pointy. So I got the Compsteganathus instead.

I like the Indoraptor because it was inspired by the xenomorph and its just so sinister looking compared to the canon hybrids. Although I did enjoy the Indominus rex.

So if I had to put my favorite hybrids in a list here it goes

10. Ankyloranodon
9. Amargospinus
8. Paradeinonychus
7. Stegoceratops
6. Compsteganathus
5. Indominus rex
4. Spinoraptor
3. Indoraptor
2. Velocirapteryx
1. Ultimasaurus

I comepletely agree, I recently discovered I actually really like Scorpius despite just hating it for a long time. The ambomination feel was really great to finally get.

I dont actually know about Spinosaurus, I think it was apparently the first hybrid according to the masrani website, but otherwise I actually have no idea.

I just included it in case.

The Indoraptor from the main canon

The Ultimasaurus from Chaos Effect canon

Personally, I thought the Scorpios was the most interesting hybrid. Its venom and ability to self replicate made it more unique. Plus it really gave off an unsettling "abomination of science" feel. Looking at its appearance and the way it acted and moved, it really came off as something that shouldn't exist in the natural world and that the fact that it was made is an affront to nature, something that isn't an animal, but a monstrosity, which is something I really wanted to see with the hybrids, which we kind of got with the Indoraptor, but not so much with the Indominus.

Also, I wouldn't really count the Spinosaurus as a hybrid. Canonically it is mutated and was a result of a secret experiment, but it was still meant to be based on a real dinosaur and at the time it was created (and when the film came out) it was accurate to what the animal was thought to have looked like, even if the reconstruction is considered outdated now. I would argue that the Velociraptors are more of a hybrid than the Spino, considering that they're over twice as large as real Velociraptors, featherless, and based more on Deinonychus, but even then a lot of that was based on certain information at the time the original novel and film were made.

Also researching me this ended me up on some creationist website? Idk what that has to do with indominus rex but it happened.

I'm really excited to see the full Dimetrodon scene, I've been wanting to see them in a Jurassic movie for a while. They've been featured in the toy lines and video games since the first movie's release, so it's about time they finally show up in a movie.

I'm also wondering if the Dimetrodons living in the mines is a potential reference to the Lost World PS1 game, as they were originally meant to appear as enemies in the Hunter levels that took place in the mines. It might be a bit of a stretch, but they've been referencing the older video games a lot during the marketing, they even used sound effects from the PS1 game (specifically ones from the Hunter levels) in the new DinoTracker viral marketing videos.

technically the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park are Dienonychus and not Velociraptors. The Dr. Grant was digging up its skeleton in Montana where Dienonychus fossils are found rather than Mongolia/China were velociraptor fossils are found.

Utahraptors were discovered later during filming yes but had the opposite problem of the velociraptor, they were too big. The dakotaraptor is more portionalized to the movie raptors than either Dienonychus and Utahraptor

Well if we get down to the technicals: the Pteranodons, the Mosasaurus, and the Dimorphodons aren't dinosaurs either. Not to mention all the other non-Dinosaurian cloned animals outside of the films and books.

Side Note: I also find it funny that the same people criticize the idea of human cloning as "jumping the shark", in a series that's about cloning animals that have been extinct for millions of years...
