Your History With Dinosaurs?

I don't really remember my history with dinosaurs.

^That's why it's my second-favourite dinosaur, but it's still no match for childhood nostalgia in the form of a forty-foot, ten-tonne tyrant.

My mom read me dinosaur books when I was 3 and then I saw that Walking With Dinosaurs live show thing. Then I discovered Jurassic Park.

I never really had a top ten, but my first favorite dinosaur was Triceratops. From when I saw JP3 in Kindergarten up until fifth grade my favorite was Spinosaurus. Then it was Utahraptor. Now it's a tie between Utahraptor and Dakotaraptor. I can't decide.

 But yeah I discovered with dinosaurs with... Jurassic Park. Then I saw Carnosaur, The Land Before Time, Barney, Fantasia, Primal Rage, and Caveman all in 1993-1994. I was excited with each new sequel with Land Before Time although the singing annoyed me back then. But then I saw Carnosaur 2 and Carnosaur 3, at the time I was just happy with a new dinosaur movie until The Lost World: Jurassic Park came out, I was like Yahoooooooo!

Oh in the intervening years I got into watching dinosaur documentaries like Walking with Dinosaurs, Paleoworld, and other 90's documentary shows. Also, I watched Extreme Dinosaurs on FoxKids.

Then early 2001, I was very excited for Jurassic Park III and then I was like okay.... T. rex just died... what the fuck! I liked the intelligent raptors but that was the only thing that kept drawn to the movie. 

I continued watching dinosaur documentaries throughout the early 2000s since most dinosaur movies that came out (both blockbuster and low budgeted SyFy movies) were crap. Also, I was kind of swept away by my surging interest in Fantasy Movies like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and Fantasy games like The Elder Scrolls. 

I started getting back into sci-fi movies around the latter 2000's (07-09) that's when I heard the news of a then 2009 release of Jurassic Park 4. But was disappointed when it was canceled, also at this time released how awful the Carnosaur movies were when I rewatched them.

But In 2013 they announced Jurassic Park 4 was still happening, I was very excited and then when news came out it was going to be called Jurassic World I was like what? okay! Then on June 12th, 2015, I was like best Birthday present ever, I watched it in 3D IMAX.

But yeah I love dinosaurs, I would like if a big budgeted Hollywood movie would bring scientifically accurate dinosaurs to the big screen but I know Jurassic Park's reasons for inaccurate dinosaurs since they are genetically engineered. But I grew to hate Disney for their constant inaccurate dinosaur depictions with no justification to the story also they (Disney) actually teaches children to this day that dinosaurs were wiped out by the Ice Age. I don't mean featherless dinosaurs with broken hands either, I mean 1890-1980's dinosaur depictions.

sorry I meant wrists. Disney seems to have an agenda of pissing all over dinosaur science, Walt seemed to ingrain this into Disney's very being back when he made Fantasia and decided that T. rex looked better with three fingers. I used to assume it was an Allosaurus when I was younger.

^That was before the arms of a Tyrannosaurus were uncovered. But I was triggered beyond belief by the rex family in The Good Dinosaur.

The Good Dinosaur was a very stupid movie, not too mention was heavily retro. A Huge step back in potrayal of dinosaurs, I hate the Good Dinosaur it might as well be called "That Bad Dinosaur Pixar movie"

My interest in dinosaurs didn't start with Jurassic Park.  I just started reading books about them when I was a little kid.  I also remember going to the museum for the first time with my family, just to see the dinosaurs (which is basically every little kid's reason to go to the museum for the first time).  I was hopping out of my skin, just a wide-eyed little guy who would pronounce all the dinosaur names correctly, impressing everyone there :D

Then when I was 5, I saw a taped-recording of Jurassic Park, and loved it.  When I was told soon after that The Lost World was already made and recorded on VHS from a movie network on tv, I desperately wanted to see it!  When I did see it, I was...disappointed.  I didn't think at the time there were enough dinosaur scenes in it, and it was dark throughout most of the dinosaur scenes.  Remember, to a young kid who loves dinosaurs, watching a bunch of people talk is boring.  You watch these movies for the dinosaurs, and I didn't see enough of them!  

Then, I somehow heard that Jurassic Park 3 was coming out, and I got excited AGAIN!  But my parents said I was too young to see it in the theatre, so I had to occupy myself with watching dinosaur documentaries that my grandmother taped from Discovery Channel (most of which were listed in previous comments), along with Crocodile Hunter, Wild Discovery, and Walking with Prehistoric Beasts (re-watching those tapes, with all the old commercials, makes me more nostalgic than you could realize).  As well, despite my parents not wanting me to see JP3 in the theatre, they did buy me 3 JP3 games:  Dino Defender, Danger Zone, and Island Attack.  I was actually a couple of years younger than the age restriction on Dino Defender, but I managed to convince my mother that I could handle it.  I also lost my first tooth when playing DD.  I also never managed to complete Island Attack until I was almost 15, because when I was 7 I was too scared to fight the T.rex in the level 1 boss battle, despite it had poor graphics on my old GameBoy Advance.

Then, JP3 was released on VHS, and I convinced my parents to buy it, and I was blown out of the water.  It became my favourite movie of the franchise at the time, because I found it gave the dinosaurs AMPLE SCREEN TIME!  That was my primary complaint for the two previous movies, and JP3 delivered!  I already knew the Spinosaurus was basically the new appointed king of dinosaurs for the franchise, so it didn't faze me so much.  By that time, I had already built quite the toy collection of JP3 toys, most of which I still have in boxes somewhere.

Then, as I got older, I developed new interests (ex. sports, girls, french), as one should.  My interest in dinosaurs and other prehistoric vertebrate lifeforms peaked and waned at times, which never bothered me.  In fact, on one of these peaks, I went to a dinosaur day camp just north of where I lived for a couple of weeks on summer vacation.  I loved it there, being surrounded by nature and getting to see all sorts of cool animals and exploring in the nearby woods.

I still watched the documentaries and movies (now including Jurassic Fight Club in 2007 and 2008), and watched some cool JP:OG stories on Youtube during free time in my gr 9 busines tech class, and kept up with new discoveries, but it just was not as often as before.

It was around 2011 when my interest reached a new peak, where I had already accumulated a lot of knowledge about these animals.  Planet Dinosaur and Dinosaur Revolution premiered on Discovery Channel, and I became aware of the dino-human hybrid concept for Jurassic Park 4.  

By the summer of 2013, I had graduated high school, prepping for university, when I came across this forum.  I read about some new discoveries, and some cool stories.  I thought about writing my own story, but I didn't have much to go one, since I needed some ideas to separate mine from those of other users.  Then I read one about a female T.rex fighting off a Giganotosaurus, which is where I got my first idea.

By the fall of that year, I had most of my story thought out, but I had to make sure that making an account on this site was free, since I'm very frugal my my finances.  It was (thankfully), and I managed to write out a good chunk of my story before distracting myself from the NHL long enough to watch  WWD: 3D.  Yeah, I disliked the talking portion, but the CGI was fantastic, which I should have known in the first place if I knew Animal Logic was behind it (they made Legend of the Guradians too, which I had waited 3 years to watch after reading Guardians of Ga'Hoole; I'm a Ga'Hooligan for life :P ).  The intensity of the final battle in WWD: 3D was what inspired me to write my own story's final battle in the way it came out.

I think I made my account here the day I saw WWD: 3D, or at most a couple of days later.  Then, come January, I posted the first chapter of The Tyrant's Roar.  It wasn't until July of 2014 that I finished posting, because first of year university was heavy.

I continued reading topics and commenting ever since, making one other story series, all the while reading up on new discoveries, and observing everything dinosaur.  I even took a paleontology course a couple of semesters ago (which I aced of course).

All the while, I have active academic, sports-based, and social lives, so I don't isolate myself too much.  One does need balance in life.

^The classics.  T.rex, Spinosaurus, Triceratops, Stegosaurus,...

My #1 favorite is Kentrosaurus how can you not love it?

@DinoFan91, it's a beautiful creature.  I don't not love it, but it's just not my favourite.

How could Jurassic Park 3 be better than Jurassic Park original or The Lost World? As a devout Jurassic Park fan, that's heresy!

Also, Tyrannosaurus is so much more powerful than Spinosaurus, I hated it when that fish eater killed the true king of the dinosaurs.

I don't hate Spinosaurus the animal, but as for Jurassic Park dinosaurs go... I hate the Jurassic Park Spinosaurus for being OP.

Spinosaurus the animal, I could see being very comfortable in the water and due to its larger size would probably fare better in the water to alleviate its weight. Since Spinosaurus is carrying around that large sail which would make it top heavy on the land.

@Xenotaris, when you're a 7 year old dino-fanatic born that couldn't care less when people are talking in the movie, you're going to love JP3 more than the other two.  Remember, even if you think you know a lot about dinosaurs when you're that age, and if OTHER PEOPLE say the same thing, you really don't.  So I wasn't ticked off about JP3's Spinosaurus when I was that little.  To me, I was amazed.  To think, there's a theropod that's bigger, stronger, and MEANER than a T.rex?!?!  I loved it!  Only when I matured more did I see the problems with the movie, but never did I end up disliking the Spinosaurus, true animal or JP canon.

I grew up on Jurassic Park original when I was 4 years old and I was 7 years old when The Lost World: Jurassic Park came out. I was 11 years old when Jurassic Park III came out. I was as much as a dinosaur fanatic as probably you are back then.

I really loved T. rex as well as the Velociraptors and the Dilophosaurus (my favorite Therapod) but to see T. rex being killed off in such an unrealistic way pissed an 11 year old me.

^Yes, but you were more mature at the time.  You couldn't help it.  11 year olds are smarter than most people give them credit for.  7 year olds...not as much :P

Well, I knew how to pronounce a lot of dinosaurs names when I was 5 years old and my first big word I spelled was Jurassic and Dinosaur. So I pretty smart if autistic seven year old...when it came to dinosaurs at least in other things, I was meh.

Yeah, Dinosaurs were all I could think of back then.
