It was May 27, 2015. The two Spinosaurs had built a nest and were ready to defend it. Blossom laid her eggs and left to find food while Spinax watched it. He would lay down nex to it and watch it. Eventually, they switched roles, and Spinax found himself hunting. He mostly caught fish and the occasional Parasaurolophus that got too close.
Even after growing to the size of an adult Spinosaurus, Spinax continued to grow. Now, he was 55 feet long, 27 feet tall at the sail, and 18 feet tall at the head. He was larger than his mate, who was 50 feet long, 25 feet tall at the sail, and 18 feet tall at the head. Nothing in his domain rivaled him in size and strength, and he now rivaled the power of the Isla Nublar Tyrannosaurus, Rexy.
No one knew it, but Spinax's parents were genetically modified to be larger, tougher, stronger, and smarter. Their genes were passed on to their youngest son.
One day, when carrying a fish in his jaws back to the nest, he dropped it at what had happened there. Seven out of the ten eggs were gone, the destroyed shells littering the area. Blossom was fending off a pair of Rugops.
Those peasants took our eggs?! Spinax thought, enraged. He lunged forward, grabbing one by the neck. The Abelisaurid roared, struggling. Blossom charged in, crushing the enemy's head under her foot. The other Rugops fled, with Spinax roaring.
Then, one of the eggs began to hatch. Spinax turned to watch, seeing his eldest son come into the world. He looked just like his father as a baby. The second egg hatched, this one female. Then the third, another male.
Spinax had never felt happier. He was now a father. Smiling, he and Blossom fell asleep as their offspring began to play while eating the fish their father had brought back.
Chapter 8: Home
Just as June began, Spinax felt the ground begin to rumble. It was like nothing he'd experienced before. He couldn't tell what it was. Was it a stampede? A pack of Tyrannosaurus? No. It was something scarier, a much more destructive force of nature. A loud roar shook the Earth, piercing the Spinosaurus family's ears. A bright light lit up the sky, nearly blinding every creature who saw it. Squinting, Spinax saw a volcano, lava spewing out of it, heading in his direction. For the first time, he felt fear.
Scooping up his eldest son, he began to flee, Blossom right behind him with the other two babies in her mouth. They were in a swamp, so they began to swim away. Then, the next wave of destruction hit. Flaming rocks crashed down from the Heavens, pelting the trees in the area. They went up in a fiery blaze, and the inferno was spreading. The Spinosaurs crawled out of the water, fleeing as a tree crashed behind them.
The next morning...
Spinax collapsed, gasping for air as the babies exited his jaws. He and his family had been running for a whole day, and were now stuck in a giant desert. They were starving, and needed to find food fast.
Pterosaurs flew overhead, circling like vultures. One of them landed near a pile of ones, picking off what little meat remained. Spinax jumped forward, catching it by the foot. It tried to fly away, but the Spinosaurus stepped on its wing, killing any hope of escape. He brought it back to his family, letting them eat it.
Spinax then went in search of a meal for himself. Luckily, he spotted a herd of Parasaurs. He selected his target, then charged, his jaws agape. He caught it by the neck, but it kept running, so he placed his foot on its shoulder, knocking it to the ground. The Spinosaurus devoured it alive, satisfying his hunger. The babies and Blossom ate what was left.
The family continued their trek, Spinax leading. The babies followed, oldest to youngest, with Blossom behind them. They walked through the Hell for four days, then found hope.
Blossom and her offspring cheered as they entered the swamp, while Spinax remembered the area. This was his birthplace, he had missed it so much. He spotted the nest where he had been born, the eggshells broken. Walking over to the river, he saw two skeletons. One was that of the Onchopristis he had killed. The other was his mother. The second skeleton had several cracked bones and bite marks, but was otherwise intact.
But their moment of triumph was interrupted. A Suchomimus emerged from the water, growling at them. Inside the river, a Sarcosuchus grabbed their attention, hissing. Spinax recognized him; this was the same Sarco that had defeated him earlier. Then, a mated pair of Carcharodontosaurus appeared. A battle was inevitable.
