MemberTyrannosaurus RexSep-21-2013 12:10 PMMaybe. The thing is, the general public really only knows Dilophosaurus from the poison spitting little one in Jurassic Park.
How is Primal Carnage? It looks fun.

MemberCompsognathusSep-21-2013 12:10 PMThe thing is, the Dilo in JP is about the size of a real Velociraptor and the raptors were about the size of a real Dilo. I'm pretty sure Spielberg simply did not want confusion between the two.

MemberCompsognathusSep-21-2013 1:25 PMI think poeple got used to the JP dilo, the small, venom spitting dilo. So general public would be pretty confused if they see a dilophosaurus different from the one in jurassic park. Then, why not imitating it so the people can recognize the JP style dilo and start buying the game?

MemberCompsognathusSep-21-2013 4:36 PMThe reason the Dilo is so small is just because its small. I read on the Primal Carnage site that most of them are small, but they do get to be up to 20 feet long. As for the Dilo in jp, then I still think that its a young one. It may not hint at it, but in the book, they had big ones, so that tells me the ones in the movie are childeren

MemberCompsognathusSep-22-2013 12:37 PMIt deffinatley isnt a yound dilo !!!
It has a display crest ! Any animal in past or present would only have one for a particular reason which could be to make them selves bigger to fight for teritory or to attract a mate meaning mature adult !
So in my view in the film it was adult.
But there is a dilo skull specimin in NYC museum of natural history which is surprisingly bigger than i thought it was . Id say judging by the measurments it could prob reach 20ft thats not OTT

MemberCompsognathusSep-22-2013 12:41 PMA crest/frill/spitable venom would accually be best on a young Dilo.
1. It serves as a deterrent to bigger dinosaurs who want to eat it while mom and dad aren't around
2. It can confuse prey which makes it easier to catch for the young and inexperienced.

MemberCompsognathusSep-22-2013 1:53 PMIf the Dilo in JP is not a juvenile, then it's even more inaccurate than I thought. Either way, this is Hollywood we're talking about. If they want to give a juvenile adult characteristics, frankly, they can do that. Is it right or accurate? No. Does it bring in money? Yes. And in the end, that's what they want.

MemberCompsognathusSep-23-2013 9:13 AMIt is stated in sorkins journal, that the dilos are new additions to the park, And do to a frog dna mutation they grew frills and spit venom, She also thinks there rate of growth may be effected by this aswell...
No full grown dilos in the park...
I think theyll bring em back for JW
anyways, most games with dinosaurus go off of this standard idea because a normal dilo is boring, its just a very small t rex without venom... no one wants that, thus the games copy of JP for venom and such--- also it was a highly popular idea when the movie came out that they had venom... this has been proven wrong but could happen

MemberCompsognathusSep-25-2013 8:39 PMThank you everyone for answering to this topic:
After I did some research it reads on JPFans twitter page: "The Dilo was revealed as a sub-adult in the first film. JP Explorer corrected the film because science caught up to the films" After checking with Dilo history and the making of JP and the video game, it still doesn't make much sense to me at this point. But then again (like most of you said) the public knows the Dilo as a vicious venom spitting raptor.

MemberCompsognathusNov-30-2013 8:10 PMfor everyone out there who is bitching about dinosaur inaccuracys in jurassic park remember the dinosaurs were geneticly engenered so they cant all be PERFECT. you can find explanations past pretty much all jp inacurassys and cunfusions. ex WHY DOES THE DILLO IN JP SPITT ACID AND HAVE A FRILL? well there are a lot of explanations the question is which ever you can exept... think about it............

MemberCompsognathusNov-30-2013 8:15 PMdillophosaurus was a frail animal, it had very thin bones. you know that lizard with that frill? it makes em seem bigger. some snakes spitt venom... what i am saying is its not impossible. remember we dont exactly know everything about these mehizoic animals. so we cant be sure. But im not saying dillo DOES have a frill

MemberCompsognathusNov-30-2013 8:20 PMOne last thing. i hate it when people say velociraptors were not that big. because the raptors in the film were velociraptor antirrhupos not to be confused with velociraptor mongoliensis. antirhupos was about five and a half feet tall mongoliensis was about three feet tall. does anyone relise this?

MemberCompsognathusDec-01-2013 10:29 AMThere's no such thing as Velociraptor antirrhupos. There's Deinonychus antirrhupos and it's nearly 6 ft tall, but no Velociraptor antirrhupos. They "combined" the two and made Deinonychus a species of Velociraptor. That way they could make a 3 ft tall Velociraptor twice as big.
