Chapter 14
Reckoning
Storm is searching the borders of his territory when he sees him. Standing at the top of a cliff nearly two hundred feet up, Scarface. Storm’s eyes go wide with hate. Scarface is watching him right now. He knows that Storm will fight and is waiting for him. Storm makes his way to the top of the cliff. Scarface, who is standing at the edge, turns to see Storm exit the treeline at the back of the cliff top. Storm gives a single, loud roar. It tells of his hatred and his determination. It tells Scarface that he is about to receive justice. Scarface snarls at the younger tyrannosaur, as if saying that he has heard such threats before. Storm is not about to be taken lightly. He roars again and this get’s Scarfaces attention. Then, the titanic battle begins.
Scarface charges Storm. He digs his claws into the ground and prepares to meet the charge. Scarface and Storm collide. For a while, neither can get an advantage over the other. They parry tooth and claw for over ten minutes, neither able to overpower the other. Eventually, Scarface swings his head and smashes it against Storm’s. Storm shakes his head a little and fights back. He lunges forward and then sidesteps. He aims for Scarface’s lower leg. He would have practically bitten it in two had the shot gone home. But Scarface is a combat veteran and will not be outmaneuvered so easily. He moves his leg out of the way and Storm just tears off a chunk of skin and muscle. Scarface runs at Storm and slams his head into Storm’s flank, breaking numerous ribs. Storm stumbles back and then regains his footing. Scarface is merciless. He charges again. He slams his body into Storm’s. But even as he gives ground, Storm acts. He kicks one of his feet up and slashes Scarface’s lower jaw with his toe claws. Scarface is enraged. While Storm is down, he rakes his claws down Storm’s side. Before he can step away, Storm grabs his ankle and breaks it. Scarface steps back and roars in pain. He has trouble putting all his weight on that leg now. Despite the excruciating pain, he attacks Storm again. Lunging forward, he uses brute force and shoves Storm to the ground. He towers over Storm. Storm closes his eyes and prepares for the final blow. It does not come. He opens them and sees the most amazing sight ever. Scarface stumbles backwards as Synca digs his claws and teeth into Scarface’s back. Scarface shakes wildly to try and throw the Nanotyrannus off, but Synca holds fast. Eventually though, Scarface manages to shake him off. Synca goes flying and strikes a tree. He falls to the ground, hard. Storm is filled with rage and is more determined than ever! He charges forward and slams into Scarface. Summoning all his strength, he pushes Scarface closer and closer to the edge. When the are just inches from the edge of the cliff, Storm gives one final shove and sends Scarface plummeting to his death. Scarface falls, roaring all the way. Storm turns and goes over to Synca. The Nanotyrannus is breathing heavily. He looks up at Storm. The look he gives Storm tells him, “Now your parents sacrifice was not in vain.” Then, his eyes slowly close and Synca puts his head down. Storm roars as loudly as he physically can.
Carrying Synca gently in his jaws, Storm makes his way to his old nesting area. When he gets there, he places Synca next to his parent’s remains. With tears in his eyes, he touches their noses. Then Storm, for the last time, moves on.
Epilogue
Legacy
Storm watches as his children play. He looks to Blue-Eye who is sitting with him. She can tell by the look in his eyes that he is worried. She gives him a reassuring nudge. The danger and threat of Scarface is gone. Storm’s family is safe and his parents and best friend are avenged. He should be happy. Storm watches as one of the young males chases a dragonfly. The dragonfly lands on Storms toe and the little dinosaur grabs it. He then looks up at Storm. With that, all of Storm’s worries melt away.
The sun is setting. Storm’s children begin to fall asleep. Blue-Eye curls up with them. Storm leaves his family momentarily. He goes to the cliff where he and Synca defeated Scarface. He looks out at the great plains. He sees herds of dinosaurs roaming in peace. As the sun sets, Storm roars one last time. The land echoes with the legacy of Storm, son of Kano and Longtooth, friend of Synca, king of the dinosaurs.
