Hunting Partners
Several years have passed since Storm killed his first dinosaur. He has grown a lot and is no longer the small, feathered dinosaur he used to be. Storm is as big as Synca and has lost most of his feathers, retaining a few on his arms, head, and the tip of his tail. Since he has grown so much, Synca started taking Storm with him on hunts and just about everywhere else. Together, they are able to bring down prey that is far larger than either of them could handle on their own. They are the perfect hunting partners. Despite being about the same size, the two dinosaurs are actually quite different. Synca’s legs are longer than Storm’s and Synca is faster. Storm may not be quite as fast, but he is somewhat stronger than Synca. Their combined speed, strength, and smarts make these two almost unstoppable.
One day, the two carnivores are sleeping when they hear something approach. They leaving the clearing they were sleeping in and head into the trees. They do not go too far though. They want to see what’s coming. After a few minutes, they see it. A single hadrosaur has wandered into the clearing. The herbivore is limping, it’s back left leg broken. It’s been two days since Storm and Synca have last eaten. They look to each other as if to say, “Let’s go for it.” Storm walks into the clearing and faces the hadrosaur head on. The herbivore is surprised to see a young tyrannosaur so boldly threatening it. It confuses the hadrosaur a lot, especially since he is twice the carnivore’s size. That’s when Synca attacks. Using his speed, he is able to cover the distance between the trees and the hadrosaur in a few seconds. Synca then uses his powerful legs to leap on the side of the plant-eater. He holds on with his short, but strong arms and claws. Synca slashes the hadrosaur’s flank with his sharp teeth. The herbivore rears up on his back legs to try and throw Synca off, but he forgets his leg is broken. Rearing up causes terrible pain and his leg gives out. Synca jumps off as the hadrosaur falls. Once he hits the ground, Storm delivers the killing stroke, a bite to the throat.
Soon after the kill is made, Storm and Synca have uninvited guests. A pack of four raptors have showed up. Storm instantly recognizes three of them. They were the ones that chased him shortly after his parents were killed all those years ago. Storm does not recognize the fourth one, but it does not matter. He will get even with these raptors. The look he gives Synca tells him, “We must kill these raptors.” Synca does not know why Storm wants to do this, but he does not question it. He’s not too fond of raptors either and does not mind lowering their population by a few. The two hunting partners approach the raptors in a very aggressive way. The raptors did not expect this and are a little confused why the young Tyrannosaurus and the Nanotyrannus are being so aggressive. The feeling quickly subsides and they too become agitated. Two head for Storm and two for Synca. One raptor leaps at Storm while the other tries to outflank him. Storm whips around and smacks the raptor that jumped at him with his tail. The raptor goes flying and falls six yards away. The other successfully attacked Storm though. The raptor slashed Storms thigh with it’s sickle claw and bit his flank. Storm turns to fight the raptor. Using sheer brute force, he plows the raptor into the ground. The smaller predator has three broken ribs and has trouble breathing. One of the ribs has pierced a lung. Storm puts him out of his misery with a bite to the head. He hears a shriek and turns to see the other raptor has recovered and is attacking. The raptor once again leaps at Storm. The young tyrannosaur makes a very unexpected move. He too leaps into the air. The raptor is caught off guard. The two predators sail through the air at each other. The raptor does not react quickly enough. Storm grabs him by the throat. Storm lands on his feet and as he does so, he slams the raptor against the ground. He looks to see how Synca is doing. One raptor lays dead, it’s head crushed by Synca’s foot. The other is jumping at the Nanotyrannus who is on his back. Storm is about to try and help, but then he sees what Synca is doing. The raptor is right above him when he kicks his powerful legs up. He places his feet on the stomach of the raptor and throws him into a tree. The raptor falls and won’t be getting up. Storm and Synca have won and suffered minimal injuries. They roar in triumph, then go back to eating.
A week has passed since the confrontation with the raptor pack. Once again, Storm and Synca are hungry. The pair is exiting the forest when they spot suitable prey. A flock of Ornithomimus is feeding in the field before them. Storm sees this as the perfect opportunity to use the ambush strategy his parents showed him on their first hunt. Storm finds a good hiding place while Synca moves around and gets behind the flock. Storm remains motionless until the time is right. Then he sees the Nanotyrannus give chase. Synca separates a good sized dinosaur and begins to chase it toward the trees. Just as it passes in front of where Storm is hiding, the young tyrannosaur leaps out and tackles the Ornithomimus. Synca quickly jumps in to help. He grabs it by the throat and kills it. The two carnivores feast until they can’t eat another bite.
They’ve been dozing not far from the carcass for a few hours now. A Bambiraptor comes to investigate the kill while the two are asleep. The little dinosaur is no bigger than Storm was when he was born. The Bambiraptor tentatively takes a bite from the carcass. He looks at the Tyrannosaurus and Nanotyrannus. Still asleep. He takes another bite and looks again. This time, they are looking right back at him. Storm and Synca don’t really care one way or another about the Bambiraptor. But, then again, this might make for a good game. Both dinosaurs are well fed and happy. Why not have a little fun? Neither Synca nor Storm have played in years. Storm gets up and begins to chase the little dinosaur. The Bambiraptor turns toward the trees and Synca jumps out of them. This scares the living daylights out of the Bambiraptor. Shrieking at the top of it’s lungs, it turns tail and runs the other way. It only goes a few yards before Storm is right in front of it. The Bambiraptor tries to turn around, but bumps right into Synca. After chasing it a little longer, Storm and Synca decide to let it go. The Bambiraptor is not too pleased with the antics of the young Tyrannosaurus and the Nanotyrannus.
Storm and Synca continue to hunt together for years. Once and awhile, they even have time for a game or too. But these times will not last. A change is in the wind and Storm and Synca will soon have to go their separate ways.
Quick note. I will be on vacation for the next 2 days. So I will not be able to post the next 2 chapters on their set days. I will get them to you all in 3 days though.
