MemberCompsognathusJun-17-2013 12:27 PMThe fossils I mentioned of a huge theropod a couple days ago are still being excavated and examined. However, i do have a little news. The femur is 149 cm or more. By comparison, Sue, the largest T-Rex known, has a femur length of 138 cm. The Giganotosaurus holotype has a femur length of 1 43 centimeters. Some Giganotosaurus fossils suggest a femur length of 150 cm or more. This dinosaur, temporarily dubbed "Deinotyrannus", is quite amazing. The skull is now thought to be that of a Purussaurus due to the proportionate issues it would have with the huge fossils, itself being only 121 cm. Furthermore, a mostly complete tibia has been found that measures longer than the femur. Based on these proportions, the dinosaur was likely a fast runner, and based on the area and immense size, probably a carcharodontosaur. Pictures coming soon.

MemberCompsognathusJun-17-2013 3:02 PMThe terrible tyrant, catchy. I still like Austrotyrannus- southern tyrant,
Tyrannosuchus- tyrant crocodile, but Deinotyrannus is good too, haha. I hope they find a skull, assuming it is a Purussaurus skull. I do want to mention something though, what would a Purussaurus be doing in rock containing dinosaur bones? Purussaurus a little less than 10 million years ago. Long after the dinosaurs died out. Seems to me that the "Purussaurus" skull, may indeed be a dinosaur skull.

MemberCompsognathusJun-17-2013 4:25 PMThat's why they think it was a Purussaurus skull. It was in a different sediment layer, much closer to the surface and about 120 feet away from the others bones. It was much closer to the fish and crocodile bones.

MemberCompsognathusJun-17-2013 4:46 PMStill would be cool if it ended up as a new dinosaur, as much as I love Giga. Hope it is so we have something new to talk about until 2015 lol ;)

MemberCompsognathusJun-17-2013 4:56 PMTyrannosaurus is still and always will be my favorite. However, if this carnivore is indeed a new species, it may be my favorite South American dinosaur. My current favorite from S. America is probably Aucasaurus. Cool, yet underrated, dinosaur. However, this new beast is quickly gaining my interest.

I'm guessing a size of 46 ft long and 7 or so tons.

MemberTyrannosaurus RexJun-17-2013 9:05 PMA new dinosaur would be cool. Based on Rex Fan's depiction of it, it would be just as big as Rex, but not as strong a skull. Don't know about the test of it. How would you tell your sister we wish her good luck? Maybe"My Internet friends wish you good luck on the dig."
